Bank of America
account holders across the United States encountered significant issues with their accounts. Many customers reported difficulties in logging into their accounts, while others faced a more alarming issue—seeing their account balances drop to zero. Additionally, online transactions were flagged as invalid, sparking widespread concern about the sudden disappearance of funds.
For hours, customers were left uncertain about the status of their finances.
Social media buzz and meme frenzy on Bank of America outage
As news of the unexpected outage spread, social media platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), became inundated with reactions. Users flooded the platform with memes, poking fun at the situation. Both Bank of America customers and non-customers chimed in, using humour to lighten the anxiety-inducing experience.
Amid the crisis, some customers humorously addressed the situation despite experiencing the glitches themselves. One user remarked, “The
Bank of America outage
is real. Just logged into all my accounts with them. Showing zero balances. LOL. FLAT BROKE.” Another sarcastically joked, “Someone robbed Bank of America, and Bank of America is entering balances to reflect pre-robbery balances. Prove me wrong.”
The memes ranged from light-hearted jokes about credit card balances remaining unchanged while bank accounts showed zero balances, to humorous takes on small transactions being affected. One user tweeted, “Bank of America saying I got $0 but my credit card is still showing a balance… Naw, put that at $0 too.” Another quipped, “Even when the balance is low, if it suddenly shows $0, I be like, my $1.00 fountain soda!!!!!!!!!!! Nooooooo!!!!!!!”
Bank of America mobile app and browser glitches
The outage primarily affected customers attempting to access their accounts through the Bank of America mobile app and website. Many users reported that they could not view their balances or recent transactions. The app was either not displaying up-to-date information or showing only the previous day’s balance. Additionally, the bank’s website was inaccessible for numerous customers, leading to further frustration.
According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks service disruptions, reports of the outage peaked around 1 PM ET, with approximately 20,266 complaints. Users voiced their frustrations, noting that essential banking functions like transferring money between accounts were not working. Some customers also reported issues with transactions made via their bank cards.
Similar issues in the past
This is not the first time Bank of America has faced such issues. In January 2023, the bank experienced a similar technical glitch when customers saw their accounts showing $0 balances after making transactions through the payment service Zelle.
Yesterday’s outage has already left a mark on the bank’s reputation, sparking widespread attention and humorous reactions across the internet.
