The Beijing Winter Olympics (February 4-20, 2022) will be played without foreign spectators and will be reserved for the Chinese public due to the covid-19 pandemic, announced this Wednesday on International Olympic Committee ( IOC ).
In addition, he indicated the COI , only fully vaccinated participants will be exempted from quarantine and a strict bubble will be enabled. The rest must observe 21 days of isolation, except “proof of medical exception”.
These decisions, announced by the IOC but taken by the Chinese organizers, they are a forerunner of the package of measures that will be announced in October to prevent the Winter Olympics become a source of contagion, a threat which had already disturbed the preparation of the Tokyo Olympics this summer (boreal).
While the epidemic situation evolves – marked by the spread of variants of covid-19 and by an increasingly widespread vaccination -, the decisions differ from those in Tokyo: the closed door is out of the question for the moment and the treatment of each athlete will depend on their situation with regard to vaccination.
The Olympic “bubble” is announced more rigorous than in Japan and will prevent athletes from having in contact with the population and provides a periodic Covid-19 test for “all the participants in the Games”, as well as for “the workforce” residing in China .
