For Gérard Lopez, the last few days are not the best of his sporting life. While he will remain as the president in office during the end of the Girondins’ unbeaten series against OM at home, he also finds himself in trouble with his other club, Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium. The players decided to go on strike after the non-payment of wages. And now, Lopez has just taken a reprimand from the UNFP concerning his management of players on the Bordeaux side, with executive elements, including Laurent Koscielny, excluded from the professional group. The UNFP, in a press release, made a point of criticizing Lopez concerning his management in Gironde.

UNFP tackles Lopez

“July 2017… July 2019… and January 2022! Lille… Bordeaux… and Bordeaux. Gérard Lopez and Gérard Lopez. In July 2017, under the presidency of Gérard Lopez, the LOSC sidelined eight players. In July 2019, the Girondins de Bordeaux had placed six… In January 2022 under the presidency of the same Gérard Lopez, the Girondins (current 17th in Ligue 1) come to declare that one of their players will be gone before the end of the month, that three others are in “disgrace”, and finally, that two other footballers, also under contract, are sidelined. (…) That in the land of wine-king, we decide – and once again… and once too many! – to put pressure on players, to “foot-tre” them on the ball, so that they give up prematurely to their contractual commitment, is unworthy of a big club like the Girondins de Bor deaux, which, at least and apparently unlike some great wines of the region, does not hide behind a misleading label, but whose merchants, pardon the managers, openly display their contempt for the contracts signed , their partial reading of Article 507 of the Professional Football Charter to better divert its meaning and spirit rather than questioning, precisely, the management of their own workforce, when the time was to multiply the contracts without having the feeling of pushing the envelope a little, much too far, with a disproportionate assembly. Finally, whatever the cellar master or the year, 2019… 2022, this Bordeaux is, for the UNFP, undrinkable”, writes the UNFP in a bitter press release addressed to Lopez. The latter risks well not to appreciate this sacred tackle.
