Bruno Fernandes hopes the goals will start to flow for him when he returns to Manchester United after the international break.

Our captain is yet to register for the Reds this season, although he has been unlucky at times, especially in the Premier League.

Bruno has already struck the crossbar twice, during our recent goalless draws at Crystal Palace and Aston Villa – results which could have been so different had those close attempts been an inch or two lower.

While it’s been a frustrating start to the season in terms of the numbers, the 30-year-old is a headstrong character and, while speaking to Portuguese media ahead of the national team’s fixtures with Poland and Scotland, he addressed his United form and stated his determination to return to the levels of previous campaigns.

“As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there, and make sure the goals start coming again,” said Fernandes.

“I have to take responsibility for that too, because I’m a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I’ve always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.

“I also have my own standards, I don’t hold back on that.

“I haven’t scored for the club yet and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.”

Bruno’s next goal will be his 80th for United in all competitions, a number only five overseas players – Eric Cantona, Anthony Martial, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy – have previously reached.

Since joining the club in January 2020, he has always managed double figures in each season, with a personal best of 28 goals in 58 games during 2020/21.

While the midfielder is banned for our next European game, against Fenerbahce, he should be available to take on Brentford in the Premier League next Saturday.
