ByteDance Launches Its First Large-scale AI Conversation Product “Dou Bao”

The first AI conversational app “Dou Bao” and its web version have recently been launched, with the download channel for Android already open. The “Dou Bao” is the internal codename “Grace” AI project by ByteDance, and currently has functions such as text-based conversation and image-based conversation.

The launch of Dou Bao signifies that ByteDance finally has a conversational large-scale model product similar to Baidu‘s ERNIE Bot and Alibaba‘s Tongyi Qianwen. ByteDance has also entered the competition for the billion-dollar AI Generated Content (AIGC) market.

The official website of the Dou Bao app is doubao.com, after downloading the DouBao app, user can register and use it without an invitation code. Upon entering the default page, you will find several intelligent chat interfaces, including AI robot DouBao, English teacher Elaine, versatile writing assistant, and chatty Xiao Ning. These intelligent entities can provide users with multilingual and multifunctional AIGC services, including but not limited to Q&A, intelligent creation, and chatting.

After multiple tests and improvements, the more mature DouBao app has made certain enhancements in user experience. By inputting relevant questions in the chat box, DouBao can provide answers to those questions. Users can give thumbs up or thumbs down to the generated answers, or ask for a new answer to help improve its answering ability. Additionally, DouBao also supports voice playback capability, which means that answers are not only listed in text form but can also be played back in audio format simultaneously.

Users can also personally train their own intelligent agents. The specific operation method is as follows: select to create a new dialogue and give the intelligent agent in that dialogue a new name. Then, based on the user’s interests and ideas, they can ask questions to the intelligent agent. This mode is somewhat similar to the popular “AI companion” nowadays, which creates an artificial intelligence capable of chatting.

For example, if you want to create an intelligent music companion, you can ask them more music-related questions and continuously train them until you obtain a chat partner that meets your preferences. Of course, users can also create multiple dialogues with different intelligent agents to train their desired artificial intelligence objects.

From the perspective of the overall functionality and user experience, Dou Bao is already able to meet users’ basic usage needs, with features covering areas such as basic office tasks, Q&A, and social interaction.
