For the fifth year in a row, Cambrian College students take home trophies from the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition
The streak continues for Cambrian College as, for the fifth year in a row, students reached the podium at the annual Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition (OCMC).
The annual OCMC is a student-focused learning experience that provides competitors with the ability to demonstrate their essential, vocational, and employability skills before industry professionals.
This year’s competition was hosted last week by Seneca College in Toronto, with 12 public colleges taking part.
Taking first place in the job interview category was Meadow Merrill of North Bay. Merrill is a second-year student in Business Administration.
“This was such an amazing experience. The competition was truly a real work experience and I learned so much, not just competing but preparing for what turned out to be one of the best interviews of my life,” said Merrill.
“Being a part of the Cambrian OCMC Team allowed me to connect with and learn from my amazing teammates as well as our faculty coaches, and was an experience I will remember forever.”
The team of Troy Kirkwood of Sudbury and Brendan Lamothe of Timmins captured third place in the market research category. Both are second-year students in Business Administration.
“Training and competing at the OCMC has definitely given us the skills to succeed in the workplace,” said Kirkwood. “Just the thought of presenting in front of a panel of industry executives was incredibly intimidating. The feeling immediately after leaving the presentation room was indescribable. It’s great to be awarded third place but that feeling of accomplishment was the real win.”
“OCMC was such a life-changing experience; the best aspect is the connections you make along the way,” adds Brendan Lamothe. “The training and competition are a crash course in the life and workplace skills required to succeed in business.”
The team of Paige Lemaitre of Barrie and Emma Kilbride of Sudbury placed fifth in the integrated marketing communications category. They are both in their third and final year in Business Administration – Marketing.
“We have such a smart and creative group of students who are really making a name for Cambrian College’s business programs,” said Marnie Staffen, a Business professor and one of the coaches for Team Cambrian. “We were competing against schools from across the province and I’m so proud of all of our team and the amazing accomplishments we achieved once again on the provincial stage.”
