Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is following her husband Prince Charles’s lead and guest-editing an issue of Country Life magazine.
To celebrate her 75th birthday this July, the royal will curate that month’s issue. According to the magazine, the publication “will reflect The Duchess’s love of horses and dogs—she has two rescue Jack Russell terriers, Bluebell and Beth, and is patron of Battersea Cats and Dogs’ Home. The Duchess will reveal her champions of the countryside, her most cherished view and favourite recipe.” They added, “The edition will also focus on the work of The Duchess as patron of over 90 charities, from Barnardo’s to The Royal School of Needlework and The Royal Society of Literature.”
Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles will also help his mom with the issue as he is already a longstanding contributor to the magazine, in addition to being a food writer and critic. “As a columnist for Country Life, I’m delighted my mother will be guest-editing a special issue. But rather hoping she won’t try to muck about with my copy,” Bowles jokingly said in response to the announcement.
This will make Camilla the third royal to guest edit an issue of Country Life. Prince Charles has taken on the role twice, once to commemorate his 65th birthday in 2013 and again for his 70th birthday in 2018. His sister Princess Anne also took on the title in 2020 when she turned 70. Meghan Markle has also assumed the title of guest editor, although her stint was at British Vogue for the magazine’s 2019 September issue, titled “Forces for Change.” In the publication, she featured fifteen women known for their activism, ranging from Jane Fonda to Greta Thunberg. Meghan also interviewed Michelle Obama, while her husband Prince Harry spoke with Dr. Jane Goodall.
