Capcom wants to make PC the main platform for its games in the future

Even though its Arcade games have clearly helped it make a name for itself, Capcom clearly owes its international fame to its production on consoles. And even if many of the fans of its licenses are still present on these good old living room machines, the Japanese publisher no longer perceives them as the place to be above all. In any case, this is what recent statements suggest.

Capcom will significantly increase the presence of its PC games in the years to come. The information comes from Haruhiro Tsujimoto, President and COO of Capcom, in person. The latter was indeed recently interviewed by the site of the Japanese newspaper Nikkei . And during this interview, the manager of Capcom spoke of his company’s intentions with regard to the PC. Haruhiro Tsujimoto explains that Capcom wants to make the PC the main distribution channel for its games. Capcom expects that by 2022-2023, sales of its PC and console games will be in the range of 50-50. The Japanese publisher therefore does not (logically) want to abandon the consoles. But the latter are no longer necessarily the priority they may have represented in the past.

Personal Capcomputer

Some publishers, often Japanese, have shunned the PC for several years for various reasons such as piracy. A sharp turnaround has taken place in the last generation, however. And Capcom is clearly not alone in seeing PC games differently. The PC is now a central element of the commercial strategy of many publishers. Microsoft is now releasing its exclusives on PC at the same time as on Xbox consoles. Sony has also started offering PC ports of its PlayStation exclusives. And he even bought a studio specializing in PC ports in order to facilitate conversions. SEGA, another historic Japanese actor, has bought studios specializing in PC games. It also offers more and more of its console games on PC . And he is trying to release his new titles at the same time on consoles and on PC. Basically, Capcom’s approach to PC games is therefore not really surprising. It now remains to be seen whether this new strategy will have a positive impact on its finances. What do you think of these statements from Capcom? Focusing on the PC is a good strategy for you? Are you worried that Capcom will gradually abandon consoles? Empty your bag in the comments below.
