Casemiro has reiterated how happy he is at Manchester United, as he focuses on achieving his and the club’s short-term goals now he is back to fitness.

The Brazil captain has not played since the Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle United on 1 November, the same opponents we played in the final of the competition last year, when the midfielder headed the opening goal in a memorable 2-0 triumph.

However, he returned to the matchday squad for this month’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, before our winter break, and was an unused substitute on the day.

With an Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie at Newport County to look forward to this weekend, Casemiro has spoken of his determination to win more trophies for the Reds.

Speaking to MBC in Dubai, after receiving recognition for his career achievements at the Globe Soccer Awards recently, the 31-year-old expressed how well he feels in Manchester, after making the move from Real Madrid in 2022.

“It’s all amazing,” he enthused. “Since the first day, I was made to feel very welcome by the club, the players and the fans. I received so much love – on and off the pitch.

“It was a unique and magical experience, and I needed such an experience. I am so happy in Manchester with everything the city and the club offer me.

“I am happy with that and with helping the club improve and get back to the path of achievements. So yeah, I’m happy to play for Manchester United.”

The South American admits he is not one to look too far ahead and he appreciates the need for patience, as the club look to get back to where we belong.

“I’m the kind of person that focuses on short-term goals, as life is full of long-term goals,” he added. “But I focus on the short-term ones.

“We have to go step by step and continue growing and achieving victories. Last year, we won a trophy [the Carabao Cup] and it’s really important to win trophies.

“I guess, at the beginning, you need a strong base and stability at the club, which is the most important thing, and, afterwards, you will move forward and think of bigger things. That’s why we have to be cautious and patient.”
