CBI has not yet started investigation Manish Gupta’s suspicious death in Gorakhpur
The Yogi government had recommended a CBI inquiry into the suspicious death of Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, but Even after several days have passed, the CBI has not yet taken over the case. The businessman, a resident of Kanpur, had died when he was staying with his friends in a hotel in Gorakhpur. During this, the police entered his room and then he was accused of assaulting Manish.
Sources have informed Aaj Tak/India Today that the CBI has not taken over the case because the agency has been handed over to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). ) has not received notification. CBI needs it for taking over any case and registering FIR.
As per the procedure for registering FIR by CBI on recommendation of any State Government, The state government has to issue a notification to the DoPT, Government of India requesting the agency to register the case. The DoPT then sends a notification to the CBI instructing them to take over the investigation. After the CBI gets the notification, the agency re-registers the FIR registered earlier by the state police and takes over the investigation.
However, it is yet to be clarified. Not whether the Uttar Pradesh government has sent a notification to the DoPT requesting a CBI inquiry into the death of Manish Gupta. State government officials had said on Friday that on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the matter is being handed over to the CBI for a fair investigation.
Manish Gupta has MBA. degree and had previously worked as a bank manager in a private bank. Manish is survived by wife Meenakshi and a four-year-old child. The couple had married five years ago and had moved to Noida for work. However, he went back to Kanpur during the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of Kovid-19 infection.
The policemen were accused of beating Manish. In response, the police said that they had received information that suspicious people were staying in the hotel. They entered the hotel room where Manish Gupta was staying with two of his friends on Monday night.
Police claimed that while they were interrogating the three , then Manish Gupta, being intoxicated, fell on the ground and suffered a head injury. Police claimed that he was taken to BRD Medical College where he died during treatment. However, members of the victim’s family claimed that Manish Gupta died after being attacked by policemen. Manish Gupta’s wife Meenakshi has also accused the police and hotel staff of hiding the matter.
