Citizens of Graz, the second largest city in Austria, with their votes they caused a political upheaval. Namely, in the local elections in Graz, the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) won the most votes, as much as 28.9 percent, which is an increase of 8.6 percent.

Communist candidate Elke Kar (59) said after the victory that the polls did not predict such success and that its “dimensions are more than unexpected”.

“Some make promises in the weeks before the election. We are here every day, for years, for people, especially for the poorest, “she said, explaining such success.

In an interview for RTL Direkt, broadcast by the portal index.hr , she spoke about Tito and Yugoslavia, as well as about herself and relationship with citizens.

“My phone number is the same since 2005. I have an old Nokia with a keyboard, not a smartphone, but I’ve been doing it for 16 years, I answer every call, if I can’t now, then I call them, I answer every SMS. Of course, I can’t help everyone, but at least I listen to them, maybe raise their morale a little, so that they know that someone cares. I think it’s very important, “she said.

She has nothing in common with Stalin, but Marx’s ideas

“There is one song by John Lennon – ‘Working Class Hero’, that was my main motivation for people , regardless of where they are from, whether they are male or female, have equal opportunities. We should avoid injustice, because there are people who have limited chances in life from birth, their chances are not equal, “she explained.

“I will turn 60 these days and I have known about Tito since childhood, I have been to Yugoslavia several times as a child. For me, that state fell apart in the saddest possible way. Clearly not everything was perfect, but Tito was the framework that connected it all. It seems to me that during Yugoslavia it was not so important whether you were Bosnian, Montenegrin, Croat, Slovene, Serb, because there was a framework that connected different cultures, different religions and that was exactly what Tito did. Of all the former socialist states in this part of Europe, for me, Yugoslavia was the closest to my ideal, “said the future mayor of Graz, who immediately announced that she would not run in the next elections.
