Cristiano Ronaldo is furious with Ralf Rangnick for leaving him out of Man United’s squad for Sunday’s derby.
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly furious with Ralf Rangnick’s decision to omit him from Manchester United’s squad when they took on Manchester City on Sunday.
Ronaldo was left out of the squad and jetted off to Portugal while United were thrashed 4-1 by Pep Guardiola’s men.
Rangnick revealed that the 37-year-old was left out due to a recurrence of a hip issue. However, according to The Sun, Ronaldo was furious at the interim manager’s decision to exclude him from the matchday squad.
The striker’s decision to fly out to Portugal rather than support his teammates came as a surprise to many. Reports also claimed the squad felt Ronaldo was missed sorely as the team would have benefitted from his presence in the dressing room.
Rangnick reaffirmed after the game that Ronaldo was indeed injured for the game, however, former United player Roy Keane questioned if there was more to the issue than meets the eye.
Keane said: “I think the surprise there is with Ronaldo. I’m never sure when they come up and say it’s a hip flexor.”
When asked if he felt there was more to it, Keane added: “There seems to be. I just don’t like it when a manager talks about this hip flexor. I don’t get it.
“We talk about Ronaldo being almost some short of machine, is very rarely injured, but every now and again he comes out with that. Hip flexor, it doesn’t add up to me.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to training on Tuesday and was the final member of the squad to leave Carrington.
United are next up against Tottenham in the Premier League as they look to bounce back from the weekend’s defeat to City.
