At this point, we all know Daisy Jones & The Six isn’t a real band… but what if it was? Now, hear me out. I’m not wishing the turmoil of the fictional characters upon the actors who play them, but what if we ditched all that and kept the music? In the aftermath of Daisy Jones & The Six‘s explosive finaleonly one question remains for the ’70s-inspired band: will they ever go on tour?
Last week at South by Southwest, Lauren Neustadter, the executive producer of the series, implied that a live performance could be possible—if there’s enough demand for it. “The cast can’t make TikToks forever,” she said to the crowd. “Well, our Amazon friends are here, so… let’s start whatever the equivalent of a petition is. We’d love to tour because that would be so fun, but right now the first thing to do is watch all the episodes.” Promising! Given Daisy Jones & The Six‘s gripping tale of love and loss, which also came with some truly fabulous music, it’s no wonder fans are hoping to experience it all live.
As it turns out, the cast is interested in a live performance as well. Last year, Suki Waterhouse (Karen Sirko) told Insider that she and her castmates were put through an intensive band camp to train for the show—which included live performance preparation. “That was basically the goal,” she said, “To be like, ‘We could go on tour.’” Last week, Riley Keogh (Daisy Jones) shared behind-the-scenes footage of their band practice on Instagram. In the video, Waterhouse plays the piano, while the rest of the cast cheers her on. The caption reads, “Bringing it back to the very beginning in honor of the finale. February 2020 at band camp. Playing ‘It Was Always You’ from episode 9.”
In an interview with New York TimesNeustadter said she wanted the cast to experience what it’s like to perform live before they filmed the series. After completing band camp, they played Daisy Jones & The Six‘s soundtrack for an audience of around 40 people. Reese Witherspoon—the founder of Hello Sunshine, which produced Daisy Jones—was reportedly in attendance and said, after watching the show, “They need to go on tour.”
The cast, fans, production team, and even Witherspoon are all in agreement at this point, so, what happens next? Unfortunately, a live performance has not been confirmed, but never say never! Josh Whitehouse, who plays Eddie Roundtree on the show, teased a musical reunion on his TikTok account. The actor posted a video of him and the cast at what appears to be another band practice, writing, “Wait was this today or was this a year ago … I dunno.” Perhaps a live show is in the cards after all.
