Una mossa per generare hype sul nuovo album, o una vera e propria strategia per “liberare la musica” dalle strategie dei colossi dell’industria?

Il nuovo album di Kanye West non arriverà su Apple Music e Spotify, sistemi per la diffusione musicale considerati “oppressivi”. Invece, il miliardario musicista americano pubblicherà il suo Donda 2 solo ed esclusivamente su Stem Player, il suo dispositivo da 200 dollari per l’ascolto musicale e il remix on-the-fly. Potrebbe essere l’inizio di una nuova moda per “liberare la musica” dalle strategie dell’industria.
La notizia è stata diffusa attraverso il canale ufficiale dello stesso Kanye West su Instagram con parole inequivocabili: “Donda 2 sarà disponibile solo sulla mia piattaforma, Stem Player”, si legge. “Non su Apple, Amazon, Spotify o YouTube. Oggi gli artisti ottengono solo il 12% dei soldi che guadagna l’industria. E’ arrivato il momento di liberare la musica da questo sistema oppressivo. E’ tempo di riprendere il controllo e fare la nostra parte”.
Donda 2 di Kanye West non arriverà su Apple Music o Spotify, solo su Stem Player
Kanye West, che lo scorso ottobre ha modificato il suo nome in Ye, ha lanciato lo Stem Player nel 2021 dopo aver rilasciato il primo Donda. Oggi, insieme al nuovo album vende la seconda generazione del dispositivo, che consente di riprodurre quattro diverse componenti delle tracce: voce, batteria, basso e musica. Può chiaramente riprodurre anche MP3, disponendo di 8GB di storage, connettività Bluetooth e un jack audio. Per la riproduzione audio presenta inoltre uno speaker da 97dB di sensibilità.
E’ doveroso sottolineare che questa non è la prima volta di Kanye West in termini di esclusive digitali. Nel 2016 ha pubblicato The Life of Pablo in esclusiva su Tidal, suggerendo che non sarebbe arrivato “mai e poi mai” su Apple e che non sarebbe mai stato messo in vendita. Dopo due mesi l’album è stato però rilasciato su Spotify, Apple Music e Google Play. Nel 2017 ci sono state voci sull’annullamento del contratto con Tidal e sulla richiesta milionaria da parte di Kanye West, con il musicista che aveva promesso all’epoca di “averla finita con le esclusive”.
