Oakervee, 81, is one of the country’s most distinguished civil engineers and was honoured for his services to transport and infrastructure delivery
His knighthood comes after he played a crucial role for the Government, having been asked by Boris Johnson in 2019 to carry out a review of HS2.
He assembled the Oakervee report in four months, recommending that HS2 should proceed.
Oakervee was appointed chair of HS2 in 2012 and led the business case and hybrid bill preparation for Phase 1 of the HS2 project and in 2013 deposited the biggest hybrid bill ever, and in an electronic format, a first for Parliament.
Between 2005 and 2009 he was chairman of Crossrail during the project’s Hybrid Bill phase. Before that he was project director on the construction of Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong.

Among the other honours, Sarah Springman, one of the world’s most accomplished academic geotechnical engineers, was made a dame for services to engineering and to international sports administration. She is presently rector and professor of geotechnical engineering, ETH Zurich and renowned British triathlete.
CBE
Immediate past president of the Institution of Civil Engineers and executive director at WSP Rachel Skinner, received a CBE for services to infrastructure.
OBE
Raymond Hutchinson, managing director of building contractor Gilbert-Ash, received an OBE for services to construction and to diversity and inclusion.
Hanif Kara, design director and co-founder of architectural and engineering design firm AKT II, also received an OBE for services to architecture, to engineering and to education.
