Drop in Egg Prices Causes 0.02 Percent Deflation in Malang

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,MALANG — The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City stated that the decline in the price of eggs chicken in Malang City, Java East, causing a deflation of 0.02 percent in September 2021.

Head of BPS Malang City Erny Fatma Setyoharini said that one of the One commodity that has the biggest contribution to the deflation of Malang City is the decline in the price of eggs of broilers. “The price of broiler eggs decreased by 11.96 percent, contributing to deflation of 0.06 percent,” said Erny.

Erny explained, other commodities that helped suppress the deflation of Malang City in September 2021 were the decrease in tempe prices by 10.11 percent, with a share of 0.06 percent, and cayenne pepper, which fell 28.17 percent, with a share of 0.04 percent. . In addition, shallots fell 9.57 percent, and contributed to deflation of 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, commodities that experienced inflation included higher education costs by 1.18 percent, and contributed 0.04 percent.

Then, the price of cars also increased by 1.78 percent, with a share of 0.03 percent, air transportation rose 2.37 percent, with a share of 0.03 percent, cooking oil rose 1.85 percent with a share of 0.02 percent, and white cigarettes rose 3.03 percent, for a 0.01 percent share. “In addition, the tariff for two-wheeled vehicles rose 4.44 percent, and contributed 0.01 percent,” he added. Meanwhile, if viewed from the expenditure group, deflation was driven by the food, beverage and tobacco expenditure group by 0.85 percent, the health group by 0.04 percent, and the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.02 percent. For the group experiencing inflation, these include transportation 0.58 percent, education 0.52 percent, equipment, household routine maintenance equipment 0.41 percent, personal care 0.36 percent, and clothing and footwear by 0.12 percent.

Erny added, throughout 2021, Malang City’s inflation was at its lowest compared to the previous two years. It was noted that in 2019, the year on year (YoY) inflation in September was 2.81 percent, and 1.22 percent in 2020. “In 2021, YoY inflation is 1.15 percent. In 2021, it tends to be stable, low, and the lowest compared to two years earlier,” he said.

In East Java, in September 2021, of the eight cities calculated by the Consumer Price Index and Inflation, all experienced deflation. The highest deflation occurred in Banyuwangi Regency at 0.16 percent, and the lowest was in Malang City at 0.02 percent.
