In the run-up to the 40th birthday of Duchess Kate on Sunday, Kensington Palace has released three new portraits of the Duchess to celebrate this special occasion. The photos were taken at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London in November 2021. The Duchess of Cambridge had recently visited the park as part of a royal engagement to Prince William.

Kate was photographed by the famous fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. Three different images from her session were then selected to be included in the permanent collection of the UK’s National Portrait Gallery. Kate has been their royal patroness since 2021.
Photographer Roversi: “I was touched by your warmth”
Roversi – known for his soft, monochrome pictures of women and the dramatic use of light and shadow – traveled from Paris to photograph the Duchess. “Taking the portrait of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge has been a great honor and a moment of pure joy for me,” Roversi told Harper’s Bazaar.
“I was touched by her warmth and friendly welcome and enchanted by her shining eyes, which reflect the loveliness of her soul, and her smile, which shows the generosity of her heart. It was a deep and rich experience for me, an unforgettable moment. I met a wonderful person whose positive energy can give hope to the whole world. “
Kate wore Diana’s earrings and McQueen dress
For one of the pictures, Kate wore antique diamond earrings loaned to her by the Queen and posed in a bespoke red off the shoulder Alexander McQueen dress with asymmetrically draped sleeves and pocket details . In a picture in the side profile, this time in black and white, the Duchess wore a white chiffon dress with gathered sleeves and bodice, paired with diamond and pearl earrings from Princess Diana.
