Eddie Howe speaks out surrounding the future of Bruno Guimarães

Amid a new season with fresh expectations on Tyneside, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has shed light surrounding his stance on key midfielder Bruno Guimarães amid discussions of a new long-term contract at St. James’ Park.

The 25-year-old former Olympique Lyonnais standout has evolved into one of the most heralded midfielders in the Premier League after 18 months in the northeast of England and a leading protagonist during the Magpies’ successful 2022-23 campaign that saw them earn passage back into the Champions League for the first time in two decades.

But even the slightest question surrounding his future could lead to panic stations for the Toon Army regarding a player who is of vital importance for Howe despite whatever further business the club may lean into during the current summer transfer window.

According to Howe, a positive solution is a must as the club looks to move toward agreeing to a long-term extension. “We’d love for Bruno to extend his stay here for a long time. I’m not party to those talks every day, and there are talks ongoing. Bruno knows how we feel about him and I know he’s very happy here. We hope there is a solution to be found.”

After Newcastle concluded a deal that saw Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali arrive on Tyneside from AC Milan, Howe will have a very credible and competitive midfield core to turn to in the next few years should Guimarães extend his stay.
