Tomorrow, eight student satellites will be launched from Israel into a polar orbit aboard the SpaceX Falcon launcher. The eight tiny satellites are part of the launch of SpaceX, which includes more than a hundred nano-satellites from all over the world, most of them, except for Israelis, students’ projects and commercial companies. In the operation known as Spice X Transporter-3, more than one hundred micro-satellites and nano-satellites will be launched to commercial and government customers for a solar-synchronized orbit.

And is the leader of the Israeli Space Agency in the Ministry of Science and Technology. All stages of the planning, development and construction of the satellite are done by the students under the professional guidance and management of the Science Center in Herzliya.

The satellites are used for experiments in laser communication with the Earth. They contain retro-reflectors – optical components designed to pick up and return laser beams that strike them. In addition, the satellites are also used for radio-amateur communication with the Earth.

Eight teams of middle school students across the country participated in the project, 8 local authorities, from the social and geographical periphery, from the secular, religious and non-religious sectors Jew, 8 authorities representing the entire Israeli social mosaic: Sha’ar Hanegev, Ofakim, Yeruham, Taibeh, Nazareth, Ma’ale Adumim, Givat Shmuel and Kiryat Ata.

Satellite Names

  • T1OFK Ofakim

  • T2YRC Yeruham
  • T3TYB Taibe
  • T4ATA Kiryat Ata
  • T5SNG Gate The Negev

  • T6NZR Nazareth
  • T7ADM Ma’ale Adumim
  • T8GBS Givat Shmuel
  • In each of the authorities, along with the development and construction of the satellite, the students set up a suitable infrastructure: a clean room for building the satellite, for integration activities and for testing the satellites. Communication stations that will allow the monitoring of satellites, telemetry and scientific data. The control, monitoring and processing of the data received from the satellites – everything will be done by the students. According to the plan, the launch should take place at 17:40 Israel time.

In an interview with the Yadan website, the coordinator of the satellite program at the Herzliya Science Center, Sharon Mashal: its. At the Herzliya Science Center, we also integrated schools without prior knowledge of the subject. The challenge was to teach both the teacher and the students to establish a human and physical infrastructure in the schools. For three years we held regular meetings, seminars and courses to train both teachers and students. Each group faced the challenge of satellite design ranging from design and characterization, software development, satellite construction and assembly and testing, preparation for launch. Conduct planning surveys and receive feedback from the professional staff on their work. “

” In the educational aspect, adds a poll, “the program is groundbreaking in that for the first time students from all over the country and from all sectors of Israeli society participate in a space project The program allows them to take part in a real engineering project and experience learning different from the routine learning in schools. The project creates an active and attractive learning environment and contributes to the motivation and level of interest of the students. “

” They are exposed to every area of Space engineering, dealing with real problems and gaining real practical experience Work and thinking skills and interpersonal skills that will contribute to them later in their journey. “

” For three years the students worked and invested. At the height of the project, the Corona broke out and we were All learning has to be zoomed in and the students are engaged in the task, and despite the matriculation load and all the sudden change in their lives they were able to complete the task and meet the goal. “

Heat pumps outsold gas furnaces again last year — and the gap is growing

This story was originally published by Canary Media. Heat pumps outsold gas furnaces. Again. According to data from the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute released last week, Americans bought 21 percent more heat pumps in 2023 than the next-most popular heating appliance, fossil gas furnaces. That’s the biggest lead heat pumps have opened up over conventional furnaces in the two decades of data
