The Innovation Authority recently approved the establishment of a new innovation consortium, headed by Elbit C4I Systems for research and development of interaction technologies between robots For humans (HRI).
The new consortium includes leading robotics companies and academic researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence, computer science and behavioral sciences, in order to develop an innovative HRI infrastructure, to address For the need for close interaction between robotic systems and natural communication of human users (verbally and through gestures) technologies, according to relevant social codes, robotic platforms, methodological level of autonomy and more.
Today, autonomous robotic platforms (those that are not continuously controlled by a human operator) operate in a “sterile” human-free environment, such as logistics centers and automated production and assembly lines. Integrating robots in a shared work environment with human teams will enable the transfer of routine, tedious and abrasive tasks to robots and reduce workloads on human teams, thereby increasing team productivity and reducing employee departures. Such integration will only be possible when human teams feel safe and able to communicate naturally with robots operating in their immediate environment.
Yossi Cohen, Elbit Systems C4I and Chief Technology Officer in the field of cyber , said: “Our choice by the Innovation Authority to lead a human-robot interaction consortium reflects our expertise in the areas of autonomous systems and manned and unmanned tools. We look forward to collaborating with other industry partners specializing in these areas, who will join us in the consortium.” .
Dr. Aviv Zeevi, VP of Technological Infrastructure at the Innovation Authority : “The Innovation Authority works to close technological gaps in the field of robotics using various tools and by promoting the transfer of knowledge from the defense sector and academia to the wider industry.”
Elbit Systems Has been operating for decades in the field of autonomous systems and robotics and is considered a world leader in the development and production of aerial, terrestrial and marine autonomous systems. In recent years, Elbit Systems has been providing its customers with operational solutions that enable the integration of robots with human teams as part of the company’s solutions in the field of networked warfare.
