Elena Vyalbe put forward an idea on how to reform the Tour de Ski
President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation
Elena Vyalbe
told how, in her opinion, the Tour de Ski could be changed. The first Tour de Ski was held in the 2006/2007 season.
According to Vyalbe, the stage race is too frequent and there are a lot of sprint races in it.
“I don’t I really like that we have a lot of different tours. This is not only the Tour de Ski, but they also came up with the Scandinavian tour, some other tour. The first thing that annoys me a little on the tours is that we can’t change athletes there. That is, we become hostages, even if we have the maximum quota. If there is no tour, then today we can see someone in the sprint, tomorrow at a distance. There are many such tours in a year, and this is not the same.
As for the Tour de Ski specifically, I would not really want it to be so expected, so super significant, and so on did it every year. I would make it very, very serious and very difficult in a year when we don’t have world championships that are held every two years. Then it would be possible to spin it – for women 35 km, for men, maybe another fifty dollars to run. And for a two-week one – just squeeze everyone out like a lemon. I think it would be much more interesting.
This Tour was generally a bit funny, half sprint, half whatever. But it’s good that at least this was done, because the next stages were canceled altogether. Well, I do not know, I do not undertake to evaluate. It seems to me that after all, this year there is a bust – for those who do not run distances. Short distances, sprints – of course, this is not quite right, ”said Vyalbe on the air of First Sports Radio.
