Ella Emhoff continues to chisel away at the fashion world’s rigid beauty standards.
Recently the 22-year-old stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris—who caught the eye of the fashion world at the 2021 inauguration in a stunning Miu Miu coat—walked the runway for Balenciaga in their spring-summer show at Paris Fashion Week.
One thing she didn’t do to prepare for the show was pluck her eyebrows. In fact, in the latest episode of Good Morning Vogue, Emhoff shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her “basically no makeup” look and explained that she has learned to celebrate her unibrow.
“When I was younger I would pluck my middle brow area, but I recently stopped and it’s amazing,” the model and designer said in the clip, per People. “I think everyone should just embrace their little unibrows.”
This marks the second season that Ella Emhoff has walked the Paris and New York runways. Prior to modeling Balenciaga, Miu Miu, and Proenza Schouler’s spring-summer collections this year, she made her Fashion Week debut back in July after signing with IMG Models.
Emhoff told The New York Times she was “surprised” by the deal with IMG Models, which came just a week after her big inauguration moment. The company also reps Ashley Graham and Kate Moss, as well as both Bella and Gigi Hadid. “I was pretty surprised when everything with IMG was happening because when I was younger, I never saw that as being part of my timeline,” she said. “As someone who, like a lot of young girls out there, had self-confidence issues, it is intimidating and scary to go into this world that is hyper-focused on you and the body.”
Ivan Bart, president of IMG Models, was thrilled to add Emhoff to IMG’s roster. “It’s not really about shape, size, or gender anymore,” he told The New York Times. “Ella communicates this moment in time. There’s a cheekiness and a joy she exudes.”
