Eminem joins Bored Ape Yacht Club with $450,000 NFT purchase

Popular rapper Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, has joined the ranks of non-fungible token (NFT) enthusiasts as he bought Bored Ape Yacht Club #9055 for 123.45 Ethereum (roughly $453,000 at the time) over the past weekend.

The OpenSea account that did the buying, titled Shady_Holdings (a nod to Eminem’s hit song The Real Slim Shady), was created just three days ago—likely for this exact purpose. Shortly after, Eminem changed his Twitter profile picture to show off his new NFT bling.

As users pointed out, Eminem’s collection has already grown to 22 NFTs in total since he purchased #9055, however, there’s a catch. On closer inspection, it turned out that each and every one of Eminem’s current NFTs—apart from the Bored Ape—was transferred to him by other users, likely to give some spotlight to their own creations.

Yes, a dick pick (of sorts) is also among Eminem’s NFTs now. This is because in the world of blockchains, there’s really no way for users to refuse any kind of “gifts”—whether they are warranted or not.

For example, the same thing happened (including dick pics) when Budweiser bought the “beer.eth” domain name for 30 ETH (around $100,000 at the time) in August. Although the company briskly hid all unrelated (and probably uncalled for) gifts from its OpenSea page soon after.

In late November, Budweiser also dropped its own branded collection of NFTs.

Interestingly, NFT collector GeeGazza predicted (or really hoped for) Eminem’s purchase of this specific Bored Ape all the way back on November 2, tweeting “I still think @Eminem is destined to buy my @BoredApeYC one day.” Well, ask and it will be given to you, it seems.

In other news, rumors around the crypto town suggest that both Dave Chappelle and Britney Spears may also have bought their own pieces of Bored Apes happiness in recent days. However, neither one of them has confirmed or denied this at press time, so the truth is still out there.
