Jedan od najaktivnijih vulkana u Evropi, italijanska Etna, proradio je poslije kratkog relativnog mirovanja, podižući oblak vulkanskog pepela visok 12 kilometara.
Pepeo je iznad istočne Sicilije, dok je se lava izlila oko kratera na jugoistočnoj padini planine, saopštio je danas italijanski Institut za geofiziku i vulkanologiju.
Nema izvještaja o povrijeđenima ili materijalnoj šteti u naseljim kod vulkana koji je popularan među planinarima, skijaša i drugim turistima.
Popodne se tok lave iz kratera zaustavio, ali je ranije tokom dana, dok je vulkanski oblak kuljao iz Etne, Institut izdao upozorenje avionima u toj oblasti.
Ovog mjeseca se već dogodila snažna erupcija koja je munjama osvijetlila nebo iznad istočne Sicilije.
U najgoroj poznatoj erupciji Etne 1669. lava je zatrpala dio Katanije, najvećeg grada na istoku ostrva Sicilije, i opustošila desetine sela.
