UPPER TIME. The Diocese of Spiš donated to Pope Francis during his apostolic journey in Slovakia a bronze bust of Bishop Ján Vojtaššák, which comes from the workshop of Stanislav Kľúčik st. et al.
“The portrait of Bishop Vojtaššák expresses humility in suffering. It is set in granite stone and wrapped in barbed wire. The stone symbolizes his strong faith and the wire, in turn, the suffering he received with love during his life, “explains Stanislav Kľúčik Jr.
History has been repeated after three decades. During the first visit of Pope John Paul II. in Slovakia in 1990 it was donated by Stanislav Kľúčik st. a painting of Bishop Vojtaššák painted for Orava
“That’s when I got it one small black and white photograph with his likeness, according to which I was to paint this painting. I was very pleased to learn from the newspapers that the pope had chosen five of all his gifts, including my painting.
Over time, the life of John began. Vojtaššák to speak more and there were also a larger number of his photographs from which he could be inspired. I am very grateful, on this occasion we can give the Pope and his son a portrait of Bishop Vojtaššák. We believe that thanks to this, his life will become known again to people, “says Stanislav Kľúčik Sr.
Both gifts can be seen in the Vatican’s collection of gifts from the papal apostolic journeys. It is a great honor that it was our natives who received such a great honor to make a gift for the Holy Father and to represent in Slovakia and in the world that even people from our small village do great things.
