East Midlands roots

While he may be used to working with a superstar roster, Chris’ early life was miles away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

In fact, the hairdresser was born in Leicester and took an interest in hair from a young age.

“I was probably nine when I started doing my mum’s,” he told Popsugar.

“You know, she had a hard life. She was a working mum of 5, so I wanted to make her look glamorous.”

He added: “She’d stand up a bit taller, her shoulders would go back, and it was then I realised, ‘Wow, you can make people look good, but you can also make them feel good’.

“That’s where it all started for me.”

While in Leicester, Chris started as an apprentice at a salon in the city where he continued to work for almost a decade.

Family man

During his time at the salon, Chris also met fellow stylist Katie Katon who he went on to marry and have two children, Billy and Kitty-Blu, with.

The doting dad often shares snaps of his grown up children on Instagram and recently posted a picture of his brood on the red carpet.

Captioning the snap, he wrote: “This is just an appreciation post for these 2 monkeys. Couldn’t be more proud of who they grew up to be.”

According to both Billy and Kitty-Blu’s Instagram profiles, the pair now live in America.

Personal struggles

After settling into family life, Chris came out as gay when he was 26.

Speaking to Gay Times about his sexuality, he explained: “Some people know straight away, I didn’t and it took me a minute to understand that and accept that and then come out.

“Everybody has got their stories and some people are ready with it straight away, I just wasn’t. I didn’t have that realisation.”

As he came to terms with his own sexuality, Chris also admitted that he was concerned about how it would potentially affect his children – a consideration that made him take his time with everything.

He added: “It was also really important to me that the kids were comfortable before I expressed that, and that they understood and were in a good place.”

Despite going their separate ways romantically, Chris and Katie still stay in touch and often share hair styling ideas.

Katie has also admitted that she sometimes helps calm the celebrity hairstylist down if he ever gets too panicked about an upcoming gig.
