The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) has initiated proceedings against participants in the free electricity market. The regulator is still collecting information and evidence on suspicions that the price levels of the electricity exchange are the result of prohibited market behavior of the participants. It is not stated whether the abuses were only by traders or state producers were also involved.
EWRC examines the period between 15 July and 15 August 2021, in particular the prices on the electricity exchange market on 11 August 2021. During that period, the Commission received two signals of market abuse – one from a group of market participants, and another – through the Agency for the Cooperation of European Regulators, which by virtue of Regulation / EU / 1227/2011 monitors the the Bulgarian electricity market.
EWRC continues the work on all received signals with suspicions of market abuse. The regulator has provided the available documents to the State Agency for National Security and the Ministry of Interior and provides full assistance by providing expertise, they report. which carries out ongoing market monitoring and receives alerts from interested parties on suspected market abuse under the Regulation.
