Ex-Chelsea manager interested in succeeding Conte as Spurs boss

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is under increasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around following their north London derby defeat on Sunday.

The Lilywhites were beaten 2-0 by league leaders Arsenal, who extended their advantage at the top of the table to eight points with the win.

Conte’s side have been inconsistent this season, winning three and losing five of their last nine Premier League games, and speculation is growing that Conte could leave his post soon.

The Italian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, and it looks increasingly unlikely that he will commit to a new deal any time soon, although Spurs do have the option to trigger a 12-month extension to his current one.

With that in mind, former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been linked with becoming Conte’s successor, and it appears that the German would be willing to take charge of the north London outfit.

According to The Evening StandardTuchel would be interested in taking over from Conte, another former Blues boss.

Tuchel enjoyed a hugely successful spell in charge at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the space of just 18 months in charge.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss also guided his side to two FA Cup finals and a Carabao Cup final, before being sacked by new owner Todd Boehly in September last year after a poor run of results.

Despite his interest in taking over from Conte, the report claims that Tuchel isn’t currently in talks with any clubs over a potential role.

Tuchel’s sacking didn’t go down well with supporters at Stamford Bridge, and sections of The Blues’ following could be heard chanting the German’s name during their recent defeat to Manchester City at The Etihad.

He has also been linked with a number of other jobs, and it was suggested that he would have open to the idea of taking charge of the England national team prior to Gareth Southgate’s decision to remain in post for another two years.

The report also claims that the 49-year-old is learning Spanish, which suggests he could be open to the prospect of managing in La Liga.
