(People) have already died from filming selfies, of course inadvertently, and doing a lot of nonsense for as many views and likes as possible. And yet, the clip, which has garnered more than a million views on YouTube since last Christmas, is special. Trevor Jacob filmed him parachuting out of a plane that then crashed. Investigators now believe it was not a happy coincidence but a deliberate accident.
The last Taylorcraft BL64 flight took place on 24 November last year in California. Jacob claims that the engine shut down during the flight, so the plane lost buoyancy and began to fall from the sky. Unable to restart the engine, he steered the plane toward the ground and jumped out with the parachute he had. The video, which he posted a month later on YouTube, quickly became a sensation.
But with sensationalism comes the views of the crowd, which also includes experts. Shortly after the video was released, aviation enthusiasts began commenting that the crash had taken place, meaning that Jacob had deliberately crashed the plane into the ground to get the best shot and as many views as possible. When he put out the comments, a number of videos have surfaced in which individuals dissect the incident and justify why it was an intentional event.
Now the Aviation Safety Administration (FAA) has gotten involved , who will officially investigate the incident. The FAA is very thorough in this, so we will be able to wait more than a year for the results. The story is extremely unusual, as Jacob accidentally withdrew the wreckage and hid it in an unknown location. If the FAA finds that it intentionally crashed into the ground and violated the law, it could face a penalty.
