Federal Government Gets a 7-Day Ultimatum to End Fuel, Naira Crises

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a seven-day ultimatum by the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, to end the fuel and naira crises with the belief that it would mobilise mass action if the issues were not addressed.

Joe Ajaero, NLC President , issued this warning in Abuja while addressing newsmen on the outcome of a meeting convened by the Central Working Committee of the congress.

According to Ajaero, Nigerians, especially workers, had been pushed to the wall and could no longer keep quiet. “It is actually difficult for Nigerian workers to access their hard-earned money in banks and Nigerians are questioning the inability of banks to provide them their money which they were asked to pay into the bank’. He said.

He further added that it is difficult to see petroleum products and in places where it is found, it costs as much as 350 and above. Pertaining to the cash crunch, he stated the NLC is giving  the federal government of Nigeria and agencies of government, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and other banking institutions seven working days to address the issue of the cash crunch.

Ajaero said the congress will direct all workers in the country to stay at home because it has become very difficult to access money to enter vehicles to their workplaces, if they fail to do this after the expiration of the seven days.

The congress also informs the federal government that they will no longer keep quiet on the issue of perennial fuel scarcity and arbitrary increases on petroleum.
