Federal Reserve US-Senatsausschuss verschiebt Abstimmung über Fed-Kandidaten

Der Banken-Ausschuss im US-Senat hat die für Dienstag angesetzte Abstimmung über Spitzenpersonal der US-Notenbank verschoben.

Der demokratische Vorsitzende des Banken-Ausschusses im US-Senat, Sherrod Brown, erklärte, es werde nun ein Ersatztermin für die ursprünglich am Dienstag angesetzte Abstimmung über Spitzenpersonal der US-Notenbank gesucht.

Hintergrund waren Ankündigungen der Republikaner, dem Votum wegen der Nominierung der Ökonomin Sarah Bloom Raskin fernbleiben zu wollen. Damit wäre das erforderliche Quorum nicht zustande gekommen. Die Republikaner werfen Raskin Feindseligkeit gegenüber dem Öl- und Erdgassektor vor.

Der Ausschuss soll zudem über eine zweite Amtszeit von Fed-Präsident Jerome Powell entscheiden, was jedoch als Formsache gilt. Der Republikaner ist der zurzeit kommissarisch im Amt. Die Kandidaten werden vom Präsidenten nominiert. Nach einem Votum im Banken-Ausschuss des Senats muss dann die gesamte Kongress-Kammer die Ernennungen endgültig bestätigen.
