Prepare the telescope, binoculars and even dinner by candlelight. The 2022 astronomical calendar is full of phenomena and here we will tell you the dates on which each of them will occur.
After the passage of Comet Leonard , which was “allowed” to be seen on Earth after 80 thousand years! In 2022 we will have eclipses of the Sun and Moon, as well as showers of stars.
Below we share the dates in which there will be astronomical phenomena for you to write down and put together your plan.
You, me, an eclipse of Moon … I don’t know, think about it
According to the 2022 astronomical calendar, this year there will be four eclipses: two of the Moon and two of the Sun.
The first partial eclipse of the Sun will take place on Saturday, April 30. This phenomenon can be observed in the southeastern region of the Pacific Ocean and in the southern part of South America.
Fifteen days later, the Mexicans will witness a total lunar eclipse.
It is expected that on Monday, May 16, we will be able to observe the ‘Moon of Blood ‘throughout the national territory. In addition, this phenomenon can be seen in America, Europe and Africa.
The third eclipse of the year will occur on Tuesday, October 25. On that day the Sun will be partially darkened and people who are in Europe, the northeast of Africa and in the western region of Asia will be able to witness the phenomenon.
Finally, the fourth eclipse that will take place in 2022 will occur on Tuesday, November 8. The night of that day we will once again enjoy a total lunar eclipse that will be visible in Mexico, as well as in Asia, Australia, the Pacific and America.
¿ When will there be Meteor Showers?
Meteor showers will not wait this year.
According to the astronomical calendar 2022, these are the dates on which we can observe these celestial bodies crossing the air:
- January 3 and 4: Quadrantid Meteor Shower
- 22 and April 23: rain of lyrid stars
- May 6 and 7: meteor shower eta Aquarids
- August 12 and 13: Perseid rain
- October 21 and 22: Orionid Meteor Shower
- October 13 and 14: Geminid rain
Astronomical calendar 2022: what other phenomena will there be?
Not everything is eclipses and meteor showers. During 2022 we will be able to observe other astronomical phenomena.
For example, if on Friday, January 7, you look to the east (as Gandalf said 🤓), you will be able to see Mercury.
This is because that planet will be at its moment of maximum elongation and will be visible after sunset.
In addition to lunar eclipses, in 2022 we will have the ‘Super Strawberry Moon’ , on June 14, and a month later the ‘Super Deer Moon’ will conquer the night on July 13.
Remember that the Supermoon occurs when the full Moon coincides with perigee, that is, the moment of the lunar orbit at which it is closest from Earth, so the natural satellite will look bigger and brighter.
The 2022 astronomical calendar includes opposing planets, so pull out the telescope.
August 14 will be the best day of the year to see Saturn and its rings in the night sky as it will be il uminated by sunlight and can be seen throughout the night.
With a good telescope, in a place without light pollution, fans will be able to see the rings of this titan of the system solar.
A month later, on Friday, September 16, Saturn will be in opposition. The bad news is that, due to the remoteness of this planet, this astronomical phenomenon will only be visible with the help of the best telescopes.
