In France, the number of daily coronavirus infections from the last 24 hours may approach 300,000 on Tuesday. Health Minister Olivier Veran warned. This would be the country’s highest number of infections since a pandemic broke out. During the last week of each day, an average of 162,000 people were detected in France.

Official statistics from the French public health agency are released in the evening. However, the health minister often provides these figures during the day; on Tuesday, you can expect approx. 275 thousand. new infections, writes the daily “Le Parisien”.

“Every second SARS-CoV-2 is infected by more than two French people (. ..), this wave is already here and it has a dizzying character “- said Veran on Monday about the new wave of infections caused by the omicron variant.

Although on Thursday it was reported about over 67 thousand. new infections, this should not obscure the overall strong increase in infection in France, the Reuters agency said. The average daily number of infections in the last week is over 162,000. and is almost five times higher than a month ago – according to the agency’s statement.

Due to the statistics management system, data from Monday is always lower than the average, but the figure given on January 3 is almost twice as high as the week before and the highest for that day of the week since the start of the French pandemic, adds Reuters.

In France, the number of COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization is growing rapidly. On Monday, 19,606 such patients were reported (3,654 of them were treated in intensive care), the previous week there were 16,921 (3,333 in the ICU), according to public health agency data.

Veran warned on Monday that January would be “extremely difficult” for French hospitals. He explained that the omicron variant causes less serious cases, but because it is more contagious, more people can become infected with it. Therefore, despite the lower demand for places in intensive care units, a large influx of patients in ordinary hospital beds is expected – explained the minister.

Even if the estimates reported by Verana are not accurate, the number of new infections reported on Tuesday will certainly be the largest since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic in France, writes AFP. He reminds that the last record balance was recorded on December 31, 2021, when there were over 232 thousand.

The percentage of recent positive coronavirus testing on an unprecedented scale has exceeded 15 and is close to the autumn 2020 record –

Veran also recalled on Tuesday that the best protection against the severe form of COVID-19 remains taking a booster dose of the vaccine against the disease. For every patient who has received an additional dose of the vaccine, but becomes ill and is treated in intensive care, there are 20 in this ward who have not been vaccinated, stressed the French Minister of Health.
