Li enters the smartphone business with the new company, Hubei Xingji Shidai Technology Co Ltd. According to a press report, the new company will set up its headquarters in the Chinese city of Wuhan as part of an agreement with the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. Smartphones and other intelligent devices are to be developed there in the future. It also says that Xingji Shidai will position itself in the premium segment. The new company will primarily benefit from Geely’s experience in the areas of devices, integration of industrial chains, vehicle intelligence, software development and global infrastructure.
Reuters is said to have received an internal memo from which it should emerge that Xingji Shidai wants to launch its first smartphone on the market in 2023. It is planned that three million devices will be sold in the first year. “The project is funded with an investment of 10 billion yuan ($ 1.55 billion) and is targeting sales of 10 billion yuan in the first year,” the statement said, according to Reuters. Within eight years, the company is reportedly expected to generate sales of 150 billion yuan and employ a total of 3,000 people. However, Geely has not yet issued an official statement on the published information.
