Futsal: Miguel Ângelo replaces Cardinal in the squad for the Euro

Miguel Ângelo was called up to the national team to replace the injured Cardinal, who will miss the futsal European Championship due to injury.

The FPF reported that the Sporting pivot has a «clinical condition of crippling low back pain» and, therefore, Jorge Braz decided to call up the winger who also plays for the lions.

Cardinal will therefore miss the third international competition with the Portuguese team, after the absences at Euro2018 and of the 2021 World Cup – which Portugal won – also due to physical problems.

Portugal arrives at the competition as European and World champions and is integrated in Group A, together with the hosts Netherlands, Serbia and Ukraine. The European Championship will be played from January 19 to February 6.

List of the 14 players called up for the 2022 Futsal European Championship:

– Goalkeepers: André Sousa (Benfica) and Edu (Viña Albali Valdepeñas)

– Fixed: André Coelho (FC Barcelona), João Matos (Sporting) and Tomás Paçó ( Sporting)

– Fixed/Wing: Afonso Jesus (Benfica)

– Wings: Bruno Coelho (Napoli Futsal), Pany Varela (Sporting), Pauleta (Sporting) , Tiago Brito (Sporting de Braga/AAUM) and Miguel Ângelo (Sporting team)

– Wing/Pivot: Fábio Cecílio (Sporting de Braga/AAUM)

– Universal : Erick Mendonça (Sporting)

– Pivot: Zicky (Sporting)
