Today, Gajser drove well in the qualifiers and was only behind Herlings. He then started in fifth place in the race, breaking through to fourth, then overtaking Frenchman Romain Febvre in the last quarter and finished in third place.
Some time is even it looked like he was going to go into a fight with Herlings, but he finally relented, and the fight for first place erupted as the Dutchman caught the Spaniard in the last three rounds Jorge Prada. He didn’t overtake him, but at the end of the run, the competitors collided just after crossing the finish line after the finish jump in the air, with the Spaniard taking it worse as he left the track on a stretcher.
Due to the consequences of the fall, Prada was not in the second driving, so that Herlings, Febvre and Gajser fought for a joint victory. The Frenchman started better and kept the Slovene behind him; if such an order remained until the end, Febvre would also win the race. But Gajser attacked him for the first time in the ninth lap and was very close to success, and then for the second time in the 11th.
This also ultimately meant a total victory in the race with 45 points. Herlings, who was third in the second run, was second overall with 42 and Febvre third (40).
In the WC, Gajser has the red number of the leader again, who now has two points ahead of Herlings (415-413). But Febvre is also close (407), while the Prado from Osolje with 384 is again slightly behind.
“I wouldn’t have expected such an outcome two weeks ago. I had a lot of problems with a broken collarbone, I’m not quite ready yet, but the season is still long. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who helped me, I was able to return so quickly, to the team, including the physiotherapists, “ immediately after the race for the organizers of the competition said Geiser.
