The Chamber of Deputies set up a parliamentary inquiry commission into the ecological accident in Bečva at the end of April. The Commission criticized the procedure for taking and analyzing water and fish samples immediately after the accident. According to her, the actions were insufficiently coordinated by the water authority in Valašské Meziříčí and the Czech Environmental Inspectorate
None of the present members of the government movement YES voted for it. The other parties did not have a problem with this and supported that they took note of the report of the commission of inquiry.
“Dirty games are played here,” Brabec said.
“There is a lot of evidence of amateurism,” he said of the report. He accused critics of trying to influence the work of the police and of reducing trust in the police and the inspectorate. The Minister also thinks that this is an attempt to intervene in the parliamentary elections. “It’s just embroidered again,” he said. He announced that he would want Erik Geuss, the head of the Czech Environmental Inspectorate, to also be able to speak in the Chamber of Deputies.
TOP 09 chief Markéta Pekarová Adamová said that the Bečva case is synonymous with how the Czech Republic works under Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. According to Pekarová Adamová, in the case of Bečva’s poisoning, the interests of the state were seized in favor of one holding company. According to her, the factory, which belongs to the former holding of Prime Minister Babiš, was one of the ones that could have caused the accident, the investigation did not cover it. “The laziness could not have been a coincidence,” says the head of TOP 09.
“If we are in government, we will expel from the Czech Environmental Inspectorate people connected to business with oligarchs,” said the candidate of the coalition of Pirates and STAN for prime minister in the Chamber of Deputies.
In connection with the accident, the police charged a legal and natural person from the Rožnov pod Radhoštěm area in June with suspicion of damage and endangerment of the environment and of unauthorized handling of protected wild animals and plants. )
The accused are Energoaqua from Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and its director Oldřich Havelka. Energoaqua manages the factory complex of the former Rožnov Tesla. It also provides wastewater treatment in the area, leaving it through a canal that flows into Valašské Meziříčí to Bečva.
