God Of War TV Show In Negotiations With Prime Video

A God of War live-action TV series may be arriving on Prime Video. According to Deadline, Amazon is in negotiations to get the show off the ground. This would be a huge acquisition for Amazon if it goes through, adding to Prime Video’s growing original series catalog, which includes Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings.

According to sources close to Deadline, The Expanse’s executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, along with The Wheel of Time EP Rafe Judkins would be collaborating with PlayStation productions and Sony Pictures Television for the new show.

A God of War TV show or movie has been in the works for quite some time, but back in spring 2021, a Sony spokesperson said that there wouldn’t be a God of War adaptation any time soon. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment on this story.

Amazon Studios is building up its portfolio of video game adaptations, with a Fallout TV series in the works–with Walton Goggins reportedly cast in the lead role. Additionally, there have been rumblings of a Mass Effect TV show, which has been in the works for quite some time through Amazon Studios as well. Together with Amazon’s growing list of high-profile original content, it’s quickly becoming a go-to source for content, with shows based on well-beloved properties like The Wheel of Time and the upcoming LOTR series–which cost a whole lot of money to create.

This all leads back to the numerous plans dj2 Entertainment has to adapt more video games–which recently signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios.

The most recent video game adaptation was the Uncharted movie. In GameSpot’s review of Uncharted, Phil Hornshaw said, “It might not do much that the games haven’t already, but fans will enjoy a new Uncharted tale that at least brings its own flashy, death-defying treasure hunt into the fold.”
