It was published in the Official Gazette of Recife, this Saturday’s edition (8), the sanction of Mayor João Campos to the municipal law that declares gospel music as a heritage of the capital of Pernambuco.
The project is authored by councilor Pastor Júnior Tércio (Podemos), who stated that “the councilman’s intention would be to ‘raise the level’ of cultural manifestation in the city.
“Music gospel became a national heritage, and why not say world heritage, in order to deserve the declaration of ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Recife’. This initiative values the gospel culture and elevates it to the level of other cultural manifestations”, justifies the parliamentarian.
Tércio also seeks to connect his proposition with the number of Protestants in the State of Pernambuco.
“Pernambuco is the state with the highest concentration of evangelicals in the Northeast, both in absolute numbers and in proportional terms. According to the IBGE census, one in five people from Pernambuco declare themselves to be Protestant”, he writes.
