The number of bank employees who, according to the Union of Bank Employees of São Paulo, Osasco and Region, had a diagnosis of Covid-19 in the capital of São Paulo and in 16 other municipalities in the metropolitan region since the beginning this month.
Also according to the entity, 620 branches had to be closed in the period because of the contagion of employees.
“Banks urgently need to practice strict protocols, which prove to be effective, to protect their workers and customers within branches and departments”, says Neiva Ribeiro, secretary general of the entity. It also demands new hires from the sector.
The union also states that, in a survey carried out with the category, 91% of the 1,186 bank employees consulted reported cases of Covid-19 or Influenza in the last 30 years. days, and 26% returned to the workplace without the result of the Covid test.
In a note, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) did not comment on the specific data for São Paulo, but said that across the country there were 809 branches closed on the 10th, a number that reached 818 on the 12th. On Friday, the 14th, according to the entity, the number of closed branches dropped to 641.
“Febraban was not informed of the number of jobs that are under the health protocol and informs that, when tests are not carried out, the complete quarantine period is fulfilled”, the federation also said. According to the note, the statement that the increase in the number of cases is associated with the protocols adopted by banks, which maintain, says the entity, the procedures adopted since 2020 is not true.
Finally, Febraban adds that cleaning agencies, when necessary, does not affect the ability to serve customers. “In addition, we continue to dialogue with the unions about all stages of the evolution of the pandemic”, states the text.
This Tuesday (18), a meeting between the national command of bank workers and the National Federation dos Bancos (Fenaban), an entity in the sector that deals with labor issues, should discuss the adoption of preventive measures in the face of the acceleration of contagion by Covid and Influenza across the country.
