Hybrid technology is definitely reaching high-performance cars as well. The latest novelty belongs to Mercedes-AMG, which is preparing to put on the production line its new GT 63 SE Performance, a model that combines a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, with 639 hp, with an electric unit of 150 kW. Together they produce 843 hp of power and a maximum torque of over 1,400 Nm.
This will therefore be the most powerful Mercedes-AMG series production car ever, with the promise to offer benefits capable of putting a smile on the face of those who like strong emotions. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds; you reach 200 km/h in less than 10 seconds; and the maximum speed is reached at 316 km/h.

The electric motor of the GT 63 SE Performance is coupled to the rear axle, together with an electronic limited-slip differential. With this architecture it is possible to transmit power to the rear wheels more immediately, with the availability of maximum torque to be particularly useful in situations of start-up or acceleration, such as overtaking.

A high performance and low weight battery (89 Kg), developed by Mercedes-AMG itself, is mounted above the axle. Capable of providing a continuous power of 70 kW and a maximum power of 150 kW, in this case for just ten seconds, it was designed with performance in mind, so the autonomy is only 12 km. About its design, Mercedes-AMG highlights the fact that it is directly cooled, meaning approximately 14 liters of coolant circulates through all 560 cells of the battery, which increases performance and reduces deterioration, compared to systems that indirectly cool the entire pack.

The GT 63 SE Performance offers seven driving modes, which adjust the functioning of the hybrid package, the 9-speed AMG Speedshift gearbox, steering, suspension and sound. In this way, the driver can choose, depending on his preference or the driving context, between driving in fully electric mode (“Eletric” mode), with the combination of two engines (“Confort” mode) or for a greater power delivery (“Sport”; “Sport ”; “Race” modes). The “Slippery” mode is optimized for slippery road conditions, while the “Individual” mode allows the driver to adjust each of the parameters individually.

As for the exterior aesthetics, the new sports car stands out for its model designation with a red outline placed on the rear and by the double trapezoidal exhaust tips. Inside, the double-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel stands out, in which the round buttons that allow control of the driving functions and transmission modes are integrated. The benches and panels are available in different color combinations.
