The James Gunn-led superhero series “Peacemaker” seems to be doing very well for HBO Max.
Not only is the show scoring excellent critical notices, a new Business Insider report indicates the show was the most in-demand original streaming TV series in the world this past weekend according to data firm Parrot Analytics – pushing aside Disney+ series “The Book of Boba Fett”.
That said, there’s yet to be any word on a second season renewal even as Gunn has already teased a mystery DC superhero show that he is currently working on. Asked by Deadline’s Hero Nation Podcast about both projects, he did confirm the mystery series that will be “The Suicide Squad”-adjacent:
“We’re working on something now, another TV show, that’s connected to that universe. I can’t quite say, but yeah, we’re working on something else. It is connected to [‘The Suicide Squad’] and…it won’t be the same genre, really, as ‘Peacemaker.’ It won’t be as much of a comedy as ‘Peacemaker’ is. But it’ll be in the same universe.”
As for more “Peacemaker” episodes, according to Gunn the possibility of renewal seems very likely:
“There’s a really good chance of that. The show’s doing EXTRAORDINARILY well, right now. We all love doing it. We just have to cross some t’s and dot some i’s, which is basically me.”
Due to both Gunn and Cena’s schedules, it’s not clear when another season would begin filming. “Peacemaker” Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
