The National Institute of Public Health has discovered 14 cases of a mutated delta variant in Norway, which have worrying changes.

Cases in Norway So far, FHI has identified 14 cases of the new variant of the delta variant in Norway. These cases can mainly be linked to Møre og Romsdal.
– In virus monitoring, we monitor new and old genetic variants of the virus. We know that a genetic group of viruses that, among other things, have the mutation E484A has caused some outbreaks in Møre og Romsdal in the last half of August and a little into September. We are now monitoring whether the group has increased or decreased after this.
Since mid-August, seven percent of the cases that were completely sequenced from Møre og Romsdal turned out to be the new delta variant. Whole genome sequencing is the method FHI uses to investigate which coronavirus variant has been detected in humans. – It tells, among other things, that most of what has taken place of covid infection in the county during this period has been with viruses that do not belong to this group. The National Institute of Public Health writes in the weekly report that they have completely sequenced several positive samples, and are waiting for an answer. They also write that in the future they will follow the further spread of this mutated variant of the delta variant closely.
