With speed races for every type of vehicle that has wheels, it was only a matter of time before the dedicated championship even arrived ai electric scooters . eSkooter Championship , this is the name of the category announced a few months ago, was looking for teams willing to embark on this new adventure , and it seems he has now found the minimum number to start.
The tests with the specially developed vehicle then began, and we discovered more details on the race format and on the technical specifications of the scooter. If everything goes as planned, we will start racing in 2022 on specially designed circuits , with lengths included between 400 and 800 meters .
To try to minimize costs for the teams, initially there will be a single scooter model provided by the organization, and developed by the specialized company YCOM . The model is called S1-X , and has a power of well 12 kW , developed with two electric motors inside the wheels, supported by one 1.5 kWh battery , which is located in the platform.
Despite these important specifications, the weight of 35 kg is all in all contained, thanks to the use of carbon for the construction of the frame. The scooter reaches the maximum speed of 100 km / h , and is also equipped with a boost button , which offers more momentary push to attempt straight overtaking , as a sort of DRS of Formula 1 or as the Fan Boost of Formula E.
At the time of writing, 10 copies have already been delivered to the teams, so they were able to start testing. Another 20 scooters are under construction. For the first tests the power was reduced by up to 40%, so as to gradually accustom the pilots. Those who tested the vehicle complained of considerable effort to steer a scooter at such speeds, also given the lean angles in the most demanding corners. According to the organizers, by continuing the tests throughout the month of October, the preparation of the riders will improve and it will therefore be possible to test the maximum power, including the boost.
