Hirokazu Ibata becomes SAMURAI JAPAN U-12 National Team Director to guide children who will play baseball in the future

　NPBエンタープライズは11日、侍ジャパンUー12代表監督に本紙評論家の井端弘和さん(46)が就任することを発表した。今夏に台湾の台南市で開催される予定の「第6回WBSC　Uー12野球ワールドカップ」に向けてその手腕を発揮することになる。

　井端さんは1997年ドラフト5位で中日に入団。卓越した遊撃の守備と勝負強い打撃でセンターラインを担い、中日黄金時代を支えた。7度のゴールデン・グラブ賞と5度のベストナインも獲得。2013年には侍ジャパンの一員としてWBCにも出場し、14年から巨人でもプレー。現役引退後は巨人でコーチを務めた後、17年から侍ジャパンのトップチームの内野守備走塁コーチに就任し、21年東京五輪金メダル獲得に貢献した。

　井端さんは「選手時代に培った経験や、侍ジャパントップチーム内野守備走塁コーチとしてオリンピックの金メダルを獲得した経験を若い世代に伝えていきたいと思います。日本野球を担う若い選手たちの育成にも努めて参ります」と抱負を語った。
