＜陸上：出雲駅伝＞◇10日◇6区間(島根・出雲大社前～出雲ドーム前、45・1キロ)
伝統校が大学3大駅伝の1つ、出雲路に初挑戦だ。2年ぶり開催の第33回出雲全日本大学選抜駅伝(10日、午後0時5分スタート)に北大が初出場する。1923年(大12)に遊戯部から名称を改め陸上部として創部。全国舞台は17年の全日本大学駅伝以来となる。今年の北海道地区は出場2枠で、7月の予選会2位となり、1位の札幌学院大とともに単独チームで臨む。

北大の選手たちが初の出雲駅伝に挑む。大学3大駅伝の1つと称され、関東圏を中心に全国の強豪20チームが集う。9月の日本学生対抗選手権1500メートルで3位の中心選手、キャプテン高橋佑輔(4年)は「駅伝という団体スポーツで全国というのは僕自身も初めてのこと。緊張はすると思うが、自分の走りをしたい」と気持ちを高めた。
本来、北海道は学連が選抜チームを結成して参加してきた。昨年は新型コロナウイルスの影響で大会中止となり、今年は19年の道学連選抜の成績(12位)が引き続き考慮され、18年以来の代表枠が1枠増の2枠に。地区出場枠が2枠になると単独チーム2校が選考され、7月の北海道予選で2位の北大は、1位札幌学院大とそろって出場権をつかんだ。
出雲切符獲得後、夏場は、緊急事態宣言発令で全体練習はほぼできなかった。河川敷周辺を走るなど個人練習が多かった。その中で8月の東京五輪マラソンで刺激をもらった選手もいる。宮瀬陸(3年)は給水ボランティアに参加。「一瞬だったんですけど、躍動感とか、走りの迫力があった」。金メダルを獲得したエリウド・キプチョゲ(36＝ケニア)や、日本勢最高6位の大迫傑(30)ら世界トップランナーの走りに感銘を受けた。
全国の舞台は17年の全日本大学駅伝(24位)以来になる。奥村日向(3年)は「楽しんで、少しでも爪痕を残せたら」。瀧沢一騎監督(43)は「北海道の代表として出る。選手には頑張ってもらいたい」と話す。大学院2年で学生ラストイヤーの金綱航平は「とても幸せなこと。今まで関わってくれた方に感謝を示す走りができれば」。それぞれの思いを胸に緑のタスキをつなぐ。【山崎純一】
◆ History of the upper part of the North Continent It goes back 143 years ago.
