Honda has announced that the prototype of the new generation Civic Type R hot hatch is ready to start testing at the Nurburgring, and showed the first photos of it – still in camouflage. The five-door is expected to have a noticeably more restrained appearance than the Type R of the previous generation, but will retain the same engine.
Like the civilian Honda Civic, the future novelty will look different from the previous generation model more laconic design – it is noticeable, even despite the camouflage. At the same time, the Type R was provided with a new front bumper with a large air intake, a developed new wing wing and red brake calipers from Brembo, and the wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4.
Officially about the technical characteristics of hot -hatch nothing is reported yet. It was previously thought that the Civic Type R could become an all-wheel drive hybrid with separate electric motors for the rear wheels: such a power plant is able to develop more than 400 hp. However, Honda later denied the rumors, saying that such a decision would make it too difficult to design a hot hatch.
It is now expected that the new Type R will receive another, more powerful iteration of the company’s two-liter turbo engine. On the previous generation of the model, this unit developed 320 hp. and paired with a six-speed “mechanics” allowed the five-door to accelerate to 100 km / h in 5.7 seconds. In addition, for some time the Civic Type R with such a power plant was considered the fastest production car with front-wheel drive at the Nurburgring.
Honda promises to completely declassify the novelty this year.
