The Utah Jazz and their stable of young players had a night to forget Tuesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder came away 98-75 winners in NBA Summer League action.
None of Utah’s three draft picks moved the needle much. Cody Williams had seven points on 3-of-10 shooting to go with one rebound, one assist and one steal. Isaiah Collier finished with eight points and one assist. Rounding out the group, Kyle Filipowski had four points, five rebounds and two assists.
Filipowski at least managed to throw down a nice alley-oop in the third quarter:

This bucket inside by Williams, meanwhile, will be more than enough to excite fans about the No. 10 overall selection’s potential.

When it came to social media, opinions toward Filipowski were uncharitable to say the least.

Summer league reaction thus far: Jones on OKC is a baller. He’s going to make a lot of money. Bazley is a tremendous athlete. Cody Williams is smooth, needs to be more assertive. Filipowski flat out cannot play. #TakeNote #SummerLeague

I still think he’s a good pick, but Kyle Filipowski is having a rough start to Summer League. pic.twitter.com/UZN54rKeXs

By no means does Summer League define anything in terms of a NBA Career for draft picks (who are set to make rosters) but doesn’t mean you can’t put up bad performances….
We’re witnessing Kyle Filipowski in his first couple games struggle mightily (again, not a “he’s a bust”).
That was a theme with Williams as well.

This was a constant theme watching his Colorado tape as well, but there are just so many moments where it’s easy to forget that Cody Williams is even on the court

Cody Williams not impressing me at all. I still believe in his potential. Would’ve loved to see better play from a top 10 pick thus far though
Collier was limited to 13:09 on the floor because the Jazz are managing his summer workload. His one half of work did garner some praise.

The Jazz take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday in the final night of the Salt Lake City Summer League. From there, they’ll pivot to the summer festivities in Las Vegas. Utah’s opener in Sin City is July 13 against the Dallas Mavericks.
It’s safe to say fans will be looking to see more from Filipowski and Williams in addition to hoping Collier is afforded more playing time to showcase his skills.
