How Purdy could join Montana in NFL record book vs. Seahawks

49ers QB Purdy extends historic passing streak in win vs. Seahawks originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Brock Purdy doesn’t care about records or awards, but he continues to break them and make NFL history.

The 49ers quarterback led the league in completion percentage (70.2) and passer rating (116.1) entering San Francisco’s 28-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and that accuracy had him close to joining an impressive list that includes none other than franchise legend Joe Montana.

Purdy had six consecutive games with a completion percentage of 70 or higher before Sunday, and he became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to do it seven times in a row after connecting on 70.4 percent of his passes (19 of 27) against the Seahawks. Only Montana (eight consecutive games in 1989), Sam Bradford (seven consecutive in 2016) and Drew Brees (seven consecutive in 2016) have done that.

Purdy also led the NFL in touchdown percentage (6.9), yards per attempt (9.6) and yards gained per completion (13.7) through 12 games entering Sunday. He has four games with three or more TD passes and a passer rating of 140 or higher, tying Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers for the most such games in a single season in NFL history.

Since taking over as the 49ers‘ starter late last season, Purdy owns a 15-3 record and has broken franchise and league records while making a strong case for this season’s NFL MVP award. For now, though, he’s just focused on winning games, and he did exactly that Sunday.
