A 555.55 carat black diamond believed to come from space will be sold at auction. It will be available for purchase with crypto.
It is the auction house Sotheby’s in Dubai that showed off the black diamond on Monday, before “The Enigma” as it is called , sent on to London where the gemstone will be sold at auction, states Bloomberg.
Extremely rare black diamond
Black diamonds are extremely rare and are found in only two places: in Brazil and Central Africa, have a high hydrogen content, and are therefore also called carbonado.
The number five plays an important and consistent role for “The Enigma” which in addition to having 555.55 carats also has 55 facets, explains Sophie Stevens , a jewelry specialist at Sotheby’s Dubai.
“The shape of the diamond is based on the palm symbol Khamsa in the Middle East, which stands for strength and protection.”
Khamsa in Arabic means five.
“So there is a nice theme for number five that runs through the diamond,” says Sophie Stevens who adds is that the diamond may very well come from space.
Extraterrestrial origins
“With we believe the carbonado diamonds are of extraterrestrial origin, with meteorites colliding with the earth and either forming chemical vapor disposition or actually coming from the meteorites themselves. ”
Sotheby’s expects the diamond to be sold for at least five million British pounds, or over 62 million kronor, where the auction house also plans to accept cryptocurrency as payment.
